The 3rd International Workshop on Semantic Materials Science (SeMatS 2026), co-located with ISWC 2026 in Bari on 25 October 2026, has published its list of accepted papers: ten long papers and two short papers, to appear in CEUR Workshop Proceedings.

Two of them come from the MaterialsCommons consortium. Both camera-ready versions are attached below (CC BY 4.0).

Towards Object-Oriented Linked Data Profiles for Material Science

Simon Stier, Lukas Gold, Matthias Albert Popp, Simon Feiler, Gerhard Goldbeck, Yoav Nahshon, Andreas Räder, Jesper Friis, Simon Clark, Patrick Lambrix

Object-Oriented Linked Data (OO-LD) writes a data structure and its meaning into one document that is at once a JSON Schema and a JSON-LD context. The paper proposes profiles for materials science in two senses: a layered application profile that fixes the conventions science needs on top of the generic notation, and mapping profiles that relate those schemas to existing ontologies.

The Federated Data Space Infrastructure of Materials Commons: Concept and Architecture

Simon Stier, Marek Cebecauer, Jakub Klímek, Jörg Schaarschmidt, Andreas Räder, Natalia Bedoya-Martinez, Rickard Armiento, Lukas Gold

Materials data stays locked in institutional silos: repositories, electronic lab notebooks, simulation codes and autonomous experiments that are individually valuable but mutually invisible. The paper describes how MaterialsCommons adapts the Data Space Protocol to scientific labs, which cannot presume dedicated IT operations and governance structures.
