MaterialsCommons was well represented at the PSDI & Royce Materials Data Summit in Manchester (29-21 July 2026), including a talk by Chris Eberl (Fraunhofer IWM) on "How MaterialsCommons helps accelerate the digital transformation of materials science and engineering in Europe" and a poster on "Semantic Interoperability for a materials commons digital infrastructure" by Gerhard Goldbeck (EMMC). The conference demonstrated the impressive advances in tools and that adoption is taking shape. Nicola Marzari (EPFL, Cambridge Univ) criticised the lack of funding commitment for digital tools and expertise, relative to large scale infrastructure projects. The opportunities of AI were shown and critically assessed (including an excellent talks by Keith Butler (UCL) and Jan Janssen (Max Planck Institute for Sustainable Materials). The general message is that we have the capabilities but need to go faster to compete globally.
