How to create an Event

This tutorial shows how to add an Event to the MaterialsCommons knowledge base. Events appear in the timeline, calendar and list on the Event category page.

Review required: like all content, a new event is published only after a reviewer has approved it.

1. Open the editor

On the Main Page, under Contribute New Content, click the Event with People tile. (Alternatively open the Event category page and click Create.)

The Data-Editor form opens.

2. Fill in the event details

  • Label - the event name.
  • Start - the start date (required).
  • End - the end date.
  • Location (name) - where it takes place.
  • Optionally Organizer(s), Part of (event series), URL and Internal or external.

Click Save to create the event page.

3. Add a description

The form only fills the structured data. To write the event description, open the new page, click Edit in the top-right page actions and type the text in the visual editor, then Save changes. These steps are identical to the News Article tutorial - see How to create a News Article, section "Add the article body".

4. Review and approval

Saving does not publish the event. A reviewer must click Approve this revision. on the page; only approved revisions are synced, and always the newest approved one. The procedure and screenshots are the same as for news - see How to create a News Article, section "Review and approval".
